George Plummer was born in Moulton in 1898,(Newmarket Q1-1898 3B:511), son of George and Matilda PLUMMER (née TWEED).

1901 census...Aged 3, he was at Newmarket Road, Moulton with his father George PLUMMER [26] domestic gardener born Moulton and his mother Matilda [25] born Ashley.

1911 census...Aged 13, he was still at Newmarket Road, Moulton with his parents (father now a groom) and sister Hilda [10] and brother Ronald [4] both born in Moulton. Their home was at the Flint Ccottages, George went on to work at Moulton Paddocks.

On the pension card his father's address is Elm Cottages, Moulton Road, nr Newmarket.

He was a cousin of Ernest PLUMMER and Harry PLUMMER





He enlisted in Talgarth, Powys.
The 10th (1st Gwent) and 11th (2nd Gwent) battalions of the South Wales Borderers were raised in 1914. They were in France on 4th December 1915, part of the 115th Brigade of the 38th (Welsh) Division. As such they spent most of the spring of 1916 in the line at Givenchy, prior to the Battle of the Somme.
It seems to have been a very quiet spell, George was one of only 3 of the battalion to die in 7 day.

This cemetery is virtually two,
seperated by a paved track, each with a Great Cross and the War Stone only in the smaller part


George Plummer is buried in Rue-du-Bacquerot Military Cemetery, Laventie, grave 2:G:1
